CRITICAL THINKING

Group work

 

Before doing this internship, I thought there was going to be a lot of group work but actually there was more communication between us rather than work done together. We usually worked separately because we were assigned to different tasks. Therefore this experience confirmed what I thought. The advantages of this way of doing are the time gained when clarifying situations and the atmosphere in the workplace. The disadvantage is how time consuming it can be and the fact that some communication are not important to the business.

100% digital work

​

I believed that we would only work on our laptops and it was true. I online worked on my laptop every day and so did everyone. The advantage of this practice is how efficient we are on computers. The disadvantage is internet connections problems that may appear or incompatibility problems between people's computers. 

​

Good communication

​

I always thought that all the people working in a start-up would communicate a lot between them and that was the case. This goes hand in hand with my comments on group work. We would work on different missions but talk together daily when needed. The good communication aspect of a start-up company was confirmed during this internship. The advantages are the time we gained  when clarifying situations and the atmosphere in the workplace. The disadvantage are how time consuming it can be and how relevant to the company are the talks that we have.

Every person have a say on decisions to make

​

The idea I had was that everyone was able to say what they are thinking about a decision. It worked like this for our company so I was able to say if I agreed or not about a decision, what were my comments or the improvements we could make. This practice was validated by this experience but had pros and cons. The pros were that everyone felt involved in the decision making process and that creativity was fostered within the enterprise. The cons were the time consuming aspect of the practice if everyone was giving their thoughts and the fact that the decision-making process was not only a CEO based decision.

Good autonomy of everyone

​

I thought that we all need to know how to work alone and take initiatives, this was very true in my case. Everyday was a different day and part of the day was planning on what to do and how. When in need of more work, we would need to find by ourselves tasks to do before asking someone else. The advantages of this practice were the freedom we had to work on whatever we enjoyed the most and how we learned from taking more initiatives. But what would be a disadvantage was that it is not skill that everyone has before starting the internship so we would need to work on it.

Freedom to suggest ideas for the company

 

The idea of everyone giving ideas to improve the company was one of the strongest belief I had about a start-up and it was proved to be right as I was allowed to express any thought and idea about inputs for the start-up. This way of doing had the advantage of having different opinions and ideas and make everyone feel like they are a part of a company but also it is not easy for everyone to come up with ideas, be creative and innovative.
